What are Zones and Bin Locations?

Description

Bins are effectively locations within locations and Zones are an additional separator normally used to identify an area of a warehouse.

In most warehouses, stock items are uniquely placed on the floor or in shelves etc. Bin allocation is critical for Multi-Location applications.

For example, at any single warehouse location you may find Bins or Zones as shown below.

Location 1 = Perth Warehouse

Zone 1 - Clearance (Its a good idea to Select the Zone numbers in the order you most likely wish to pick the stock in)

Bin for must move stock

Bin A1A (A= Aisle/row reference, 1 = row reference, shelf vertical reference (A lowest, Z highest))

Zone 2 - Inward

Receiving area

Bin B1B

Zone 3 - Coldstore

Refrigerated Cool Room

Bin C1A

Bin C1B

Zone 4 - Showroom

Front Office Display and Sales Area

Bin D1A

Bin D1B

Location 2 = Perth Warehouse Damaged (Even though still part of Perth warehouse we have chosen to separate due to this stock not being sellable)

Zone 1

Bin A1A (A= Aisle/row reference, 1 = row reference, shelf vertical reference (A lowest, Z highest))

Bin A1B

Zones within location may not reuse bin numbers, bin numbers must be unique per location.

Zones can be used in pick list sorting.
