Introduction to Handheld Integration

To maximize the efficiency of your Datapel WMS, the system utilizes Portable Data Terminals (PDTs) and Barcode Scanners to provide real-time inventory updates. While our software is flexible, ensuring your hardware meets specific technical standards is critical for a seamless workflow.

Note: Hardware recommendations and supply are currently limited to the Oceania Region only.

Portable Data Terminal (PDT) Requirements

For the WMS Console module to function correctly on a handheld device, the following infrastructure and hardware specifications must be met:

  • Wi-Fi Connectivity: A robust Wi-Fi network must be installed, providing full coverage across all warehouse areas where the handhelds will operate.

  • Scanning Capability: Each device must be equipped with an integrated 1D or 2D barcode scanner.

  • Software Client: Every terminal requires a VT100/200 compatible client installed to communicate with the Datapel server.

Key Mapping & Layout

Efficient navigation within the Datapel interface requires specific physical or soft-keys. Ensure your chosen device features:

  • Primary Keys: ENTER and ESCAPE

  • Navigation: < (Left Arrow) and > (Right Arrow)

  • Vertical Movement: \/ (Down Arrow) and /\ (Up Arrow)

  • Input: Full Numeric keypad (0 through 9) and . (Full stop)

In certain configurations, the ENTER and ESCAPE keys can be programmed to function as LEFT and RIGHT arrows to minimize key-shifting for the operator.

Recommended Scanner Models

Datapel has verified the following models for reliability and ease of integration:

Related Information & Expert Advice

Selecting the wrong hardware can lead to significant setup delays or connectivity issues.

  • Compatibility Check: Even if a device meets the technical requirements above, internal firmware may occasionally cause conflicts.

  • Consultation: We strongly recommend consulting a Datapel representative before purchasing new hardware to ensure the model is optimized for your specific version of the WMS.
