Overview
This method is useful when the full quantity of an item cannot be picked from a single batch or bin location, requiring the picker to split the remaining quantity into a new line to be sourced from an alternate location or lot.
Prerequisites
Access to the WMS (Warehouse Management System) picking screen.
The system must be configured to allow line modification upon short picking (as indicated by the warning message during the process).
Multiple batches or bins are available for the required item quantity.
Step-by-Step Guide
Navigate to the Picking Screen: Access the WMS picking screen for the sales order.
Identify the Item to Split: Locate the item line that requires splitting (e.g., an item requiring a total pick of 10 units, but only 5 are in the current bin/lot).
Initiate Short Pick: Instead of picking the full required quantity, pick a partial amount from the current batch or bin.
Example: If the requirement is 10 units, and the current bin only has 5, select the batch/bin and enter 5 as the picked quantity.
Confirm Selection: Select "Use Selected" (or the equivalent button) to confirm the partial pick.
Acknowledge Quantity Update: The system will prompt you, asking if you want to update the quantity on the line. Select OK.
Confirm Order Modification: A critical warning will appear, stating: "This action will modify the original sale, and it can only be manually reversed." Select Yes to confirm the modification.
System Splits the Line: The system will automatically split the original pick line.
The original line will now show the quantity you just picked (e.g., 5 units).
A new line will be created in your pick list for the remaining quantity (e.g., 5 units), ready to be picked from the different tier, location, or batch.
Pick the Remainder: Proceed to the next line (the newly created one) to pick the remaining quantity from the alternate location or batch.
Complete the Order: Continue picking the rest of the items on the order.
Result
The original sales order line is automatically split in the WMS.
The new line created for the remaining stock maintains the exact price of the original line.
This removes the need to manually reverse the short pick or manually create a new line, streamlining the picking process when stock is fragmented across locations/batches.
